Pure Cinema
A Play in Three Lunches
by David Neipris
The ancients pioneered a curious use of stories.
Beyond entertainments, they could, when needed,
serve as weapons more deadly than the ballista or naval ram.
- Jorge Luis Borges
______________________________
SETTING
Alfred Hitchcock's production office bungalow at Universal Studios.
TIME
1977. The three scenes occur on consecutive Fridays.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Mel Brooks and Alfred Hitchcock did have lunch a few times to discuss a script that became High Anxiety.
But apart from the thick steaks, some of what's served here is made up, or true events tossed like a salad.
Not Mel's bells. Those he definitely wore to the meeting.
DIRECTOR’S NOTE
I am a big fan of early Mel Brooks, especially THE PRODUCERS. I'm an even bigger fan of
Alfred Hitchcock. I may be an even bigger fan of great writing and great performances. It's rare
when so many things you love are all rolled into one production, but I lucked out with PURE CINEMA.
A huge thank you tothe whole team, especially the amazing cast who it took us such a
long time to find.... and who are worth all the worry and wait. Twoje zdrowie!
